A recent survey suggests that young individuals are spending more than £6,500 annually on unconventional beauty and wellness trends.
Traditional advice on skincare and health habits like cleansing, toning, moisturizing, staying hydrated, and exercising is no longer sufficient for the current social media-driven generation.
The survey indicates a shift towards trendy practices such as salmon sperm facials, collagen supplements, weight loss injections, and mushroom powders, with British women now spending an average of £554 monthly to enhance their appearance and well-being.
Men are also investing significantly, allocating around £431 on various wellness products despite a majority of 94% of surveyed Brits acknowledging the importance of returning to basic health and wellness routines.
The survey of 2,000 participants revealed that almost half have established regular self-care routines, with a notable percentage using collagen for skin health and taking multivitamins. However, over half of those under 40 find it challenging to keep up with the ever-evolving beauty and wellness trends, leading to overspending by a quarter of them in pursuit of youthfulness and wellness.
Among the popular products purchased by Brits, collagen supplements and probiotic skincare top the list, although nearly a quarter admit to feeling disappointed after investing in supposed wellness solutions that failed to meet expectations.
The survey underscores a nostalgia for simpler health routines followed by older generations, emphasizing the importance of basics like adequate sleep, hydration, and fresh air. The majority of respondents agree that reconnecting with nature and adopting herbal remedies, such as herbal teas, can offer valuable health benefits in contrast to the overwhelming array of modern wellness options.
