A survivor of rape felt deeply violated following her assault and resorted to using Dettol to cleanse herself. David Wilson carried out a brutal double rape against the woman, disregarding her pleas to stop. The Newcastle Crown Court heard the distressing account of the attack, which left her traumatized and afraid, to the point where she couldn’t bear to touch her own skin initially.
Seeking a sense of cleanliness, she opted to wash herself with Dettol. Despite Wilson’s denial of two rape charges, a jury convicted him after a trial. He received a ten-year prison sentence from Recorder Mark Giuliani, who criticized Wilson for prioritizing his own desires over the victim’s wishes.
Recorder Giuliani described the victim’s impact statement as chilling, noting that she expressed feeling too dirty to touch her skin after the assault. The woman detailed her experience of being subjected to a violent sexual assault that left her deeply traumatized and impacted her life significantly. She even resorted to using Dettol to cleanse herself in an attempt to feel clean again.
The court learned that Wilson has a violent history, adding to the severity of his actions.
