The cost of a TV licence will increase to £180 in April, up from the current £174.50. A TV licence is necessary to watch or record live TV, as well as any content on BBC iPlayer. However, if you solely watch catch-up shows on platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, ITVX, Disney Plus, YouTube, All 4, or My5, a TV licence is not required.
If you access live broadcasts through these services, a TV licence is needed. Failure to comply may result in a fine of up to £1,000. If you no longer require your TV licence before it expires, you may be eligible for a refund with at least one month remaining on it. Additionally, refunds are possible for those eligible for concessions like being over 75 or visually impaired.
