Chief Fady Dagher unveiled the plan during a public gathering at city hall, where he addressed the recent scandal involving allegations of racial profiling by a group of officers in the city’s north end. The allegations surfaced in June, leading to an investigation into 16 officers at Station 39 for discriminatory behavior towards Black and Arab individuals during police stops. As a result, the 16-member patrol was disbanded following reports from the officers’ colleagues.
Dagher confirmed that three officers have been suspended thus far, with the investigation ongoing. The police service’s new strategy includes encouraging both internal and external whistleblowing to identify and address misconduct.
