The Ottawa Rapid have appointed Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Moscato, a member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, brings a wealth of experience, having participated in three Women’s World Cups and securing a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. She has also coached teams in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently in Saudi Arabia.
Moscato has signed a two-season deal with the Rapid and will commence her role this year, focusing on preparations for the 2027 season, including player recruitment. Thomas Gilbert, the team CEO, expressed confidence in Moscato’s leadership and expertise, emphasizing her strong coaching background and in-depth knowledge of Canadian soccer.
Reflecting on her new position, Moscato stated, “The Rapid has made significant progress in a short period. I am excited to contribute to this momentum and create an environment where players can excel, develop, and compete at the highest levels.” The Ottawa team currently leads the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 games, with their only defeat occurring in late May.
The Rapid’s upcoming match will take place in Calgary on Saturday at 4 p.m., and fans can watch the game live on CBC Gem.
