Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes area where a pilot went missing after a flight last week. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for coordinating search and rescue missions in Ontario, announced the discovery of the plane on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, situated approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes municipality, through a social media post on Monday.
The case has now been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person’s investigation, as stated by the JRCC in their social media update. Although not explicitly mentioned, it is implied that the plane found belongs to the 73-year-old missing pilot identified as David by the police.
According to a statement by Durham police on Saturday, David departed from Oshawa Airport in his aircraft at 8:30 a.m. on Friday with an expected return time of 9:30 a.m. It was also noted that he typically flies in the region south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog.
Previously disclosed by Ontario Provincial Police, the aircraft in question is a small blue homemade plane with the tail marked with “FOFZ.” Described as an experienced pilot, David is five feet seven inches tall with a slim physique, black grey hair, and a moustache.
