BT Launches Smart Hub 3: Enhanced Wi-Fi Security & Performance

TechBT Launches Smart Hub 3: Enhanced Wi-Fi Security & Performance

BT has introduced a new method for internet access that goes beyond just linking devices to the web. The company’s latest Smart Hub 3 Wi-Fi router is set to launch in UK residences soon, offering not only enhanced connectivity but also incorporating multiple security features.

One notable feature is its technology that can automatically detect unsafe websites, alerting users before potential malware or other online risks can cause damage. Additionally, it has the capability to identify hacker attempts to breach smart home devices like internet-connected cameras, preemptively blocking suspicious activities.

Users will have the ability to track any identified threats through the Hub Threat Protect feature in the MyBT app. These enhancements aim to enhance households’ online security, empowering them to stay proactive against potential cyber threats.

In addition to security, the Smart Hub 3 prioritizes performance. Supporting Complete Wi-Fi Plus, it aids in extending signal coverage across the home, reducing dead zones in weaker signal areas.

The Smart Hub 3 boasts a sleek, minimalist design, featuring a small BT logo at its center as seen in images shared by Mirror Online. Notably, the router supports Wi-Fi 6 instead of the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard found in some competitor devices, like EE routers.

While Wi-Fi 7 promises faster speeds, lower latency, and enhanced reliability, many current devices do not yet support this standard. Therefore, Wi-Fi 6 remains more than adequate for most households, offering a significant upgrade from older Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4 equipment.

To acquire this new router, BT’s Smart Hub 3 will be accessible to new customers, with some existing users possibly eligible for an upgrade.

Wi-Fi 6 has enhanced wireless performance by boosting speed, efficiency, and capacity compared to its predecessors, Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4. On the other hand, Wi-Fi 7 takes it a step further with wider 320 MHz channels, reduced latency, and even higher speeds, making it ideal for activities like gaming, 8K streaming, and advanced smart home setups.

For the majority of users today, Wi-Fi 6 remains an excellent choice, while Wi-Fi 7 offers a more future-proof solution.
