A recent incident in Minneapolis resulted in another individual being shot by an ICE agent, adding to the city’s existing turmoil. Authorities wasted no time in attempting to shift blame onto Joe Biden for the situation.
Reports emerged last night detailing an ICE agent shooting a man in the leg in the northern part of Minneapolis shortly after Renee Good, a mother of three, was fatally shot three times in the head. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the man in question tried to evade a targeted traffic stop, crashed his car, and then attempted to flee on foot. The DHS further alleged that two individuals armed with a snow shovel and a broom handle tried to attack the ICE agent, leading to the agent shooting the man in the leg out of fear for his safety.
The DHS, overseen by Kristi Noem, a close ally of former President Trump, managed to link the incident to Biden, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, in what many viewed as a blatant effort to deflect accountability for the unrest in the city.
In a statement from the DHS following the shooting, it was mentioned that a federal law enforcement operation targeting an undocumented immigrant from Venezuela, released into the country in 2022, was in progress at the time of the incident.
The attempt by Trump and his allies to shift blame onto Biden, who has been out of the political scene for a year, has been met with criticism for being distasteful and baseless.
The Trump administration has also targeted the Democrat governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, and the Democrat mayor, Jacob Frey, following the recent incidents involving federal agents discharging firearms in Minneapolis.
Accusing Governor Walz and Mayor Frey of inciting resistance against ICE and federal law enforcement, the DHS stated that such rhetoric and actions were unacceptable, especially given the significant rise in assaults against federal law enforcement officers.
Furthermore, the US deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, labeled the leadership of the governor and mayor as “terrorism”, focusing his criticism on them rather than addressing the actions of the ICE agents involved in the incidents.
Mayor Frey pushed back against the pressure from Washington and criticized ICE, accusing the agency of causing chaos in Minnesota. Residents expressed their frustration and fear over the increasing presence of ICE agents in the city, with the Trump administration reportedly deploying around 3,000 additional officers in recent weeks.
The tragic death of Renee Good, followed by controversial statements labeling her as a “domestic terrorist” by Trump and his supporters, sparked widespread protests. Despite claims that Good had initiated an unprovoked attack on an ICE agent, subsequent bodycam footage raised doubts about the validity of these assertions.
Protests erupted once again after the recent shooting, with federal agents using force against locals who were protesting against the presence and actions of ICE agents in their city. The situation has been further aggravated by attempts to shift blame onto Joe Biden, highlighting the continued politicization of tragic events in Minneapolis by the Trump administration
