“Convicted Murderer Jake Fahri to Be Moved to Open Prison”

Updates"Convicted Murderer Jake Fahri to Be Moved to Open Prison"

A convicted murderer who brazenly glorified his killing of a young victim is slated to be relocated to a less secure prison facility. In 2009, Jake Fahri, aged 19 at the time, received a life sentence with a minimum term of 14 years for fatally injuring schoolboy Jimmy Mizen in a south London bakery by hurling an oven dish at him. Fahri’s callous act severed blood vessels in 16-year-old Jimmy’s neck, with witnesses recalling Fahri grinning as he exited the establishment.

Although Fahri was granted release on license in June 2023, his return to prison in January 2025 was prompted by revelations that he had published drill music with lyrics boasting about the murder. Allegations surfaced linking Fahri to masked drill artist Ten, featured on BBC 1Xtra, with one of his tracks on Spotify and YouTube seemingly alluding to Jimmy’s tragic demise. A Parole Board decision summary noted Fahri’s denial that the music solely reflected his life but acknowledged his subsequent admission to being the rapper Ten.

During the parole hearing, Fahri attributed his breaches of license conditions to lack of awareness, claiming no one adequately briefed him. However, evidence from Fahri’s probation officer contradicted this assertion, leading the panel to reject his plea. Despite support for Fahri’s release from some witnesses and professionals, the Justice Secretary, David Lammy, opposed his re-release.

Citing concerns for public safety, the Parole Board decision deemed Fahri unfit for release, emphasizing the need for Fahri to reflect on his conduct and comply with the release plan. The Board recommended Fahri be transferred to an open prison to facilitate his introspection and understanding of his actions. Margaret, Jimmy’s mother, expressed relief at Fahri’s continued detention, remarking that this decision should have been made upon his initial release in 2023.

Open prisons, characterized by minimal security measures, permit eligible inmates to spend a significant portion of their day outside prison for work or educational activities. The final decision on Fahri’s transfer will rest with Justice Secretary David Lammy. Efforts to obtain comments from the Parole Board and Ministry of Justice are ongoing.
