A woman who forgave her mother and cousin’s killer and even offered him a job tragically met her demise at his hands. Sally Snowden McKay and her cousin, Joseph “Lee” Baker, were murdered on their estate at Horseshoe Lake in Arkansas back in 1996. Sally’s daughter reached out to the convicted murderer, Travis Lewis, during his time in prison, showing him kindness despite his past actions. Despite Lewis insisting on another man’s guilt, Martha, the grieving daughter, extended compassion towards him.
After dealing with her grief, Martha transformed her mother’s murder site into a luxury bed and breakfast and wedding venue named Snowden House. She supported Lewis’ release from prison in 2018 and employed him at Snowden House. Despite warnings from friends about Lewis, Martha remained steadfast in her decision. However, suspicions arose when $10,000 went missing from the property, leading Martha to question Lewis’ involvement.
Tragically, Martha was found brutally murdered in her home on March 25, 2020, at the age of 63. The police discovered a cloth bag near her containing valuables and a bloody knife. The investigation revealed that the killer attempted to steal from Martha but it was unclear if the intent was burglary turned violent or premeditated murder.
The perpetrator attempted to flee but drowned in the lake after jumping from a window. The body recovered was identified as Lewis, who had committed another murder 23 years later within the same family. A toxicology report indicated drug use. Family members expressed shock and disbelief over the tragic turn of events, mourning the loss of Martha and reflecting on her vibrant life.
