The President of the United States may soon face the largest protests in the history of the country as impassioned Americans gear up for No Kings demonstrations.
According to organizers, the protests are a response to what they perceive as authoritarianism under President Donald Trump, with plans for a massive march against the administration. The call for action comes amid mounting frustrations both in the U.S. and globally over the controversial ICE raids and shootings in Minneapolis carried out by Trump’s administration. The upcoming round of “No Kings” protests scheduled for this spring is anticipated to be the most significant yet.
Previous rallies have attracted millions of participants, and organizers are projecting even higher turnout on March 28 in the aftermath of Trump’s immigration crackdown in Minneapolis.
Ezra Levin, the co-executive director of the nonprofit Indivisible, told the AP that they anticipate this protest to be the largest in American history, with estimates suggesting up to nine million people could participate.
The “No Kings” protests, orchestrated by various groups nationwide, have become a focal point of opposition against Trump’s efforts to centralize and enhance his authority.
Levin emphasized that the demonstrations are largely a reaction to the perceived attacks on democracy and communities by the current administration, coupled with a prevailing sense of abandonment.
Trump has criticized the protests, sharing a peculiar AI video depicting him as a king pouring brown sludge on demonstrators from an aircraft. He has also disavowed the protests, asserting, “I’m not a king.”
The latest series of nationwide protests follows the deaths of Renee Good, a mother of three, and Alex Pretti, an intensive care nurse, at the hands of ICE agents. Trump’s administration faced backlash after seeming to downplay the involvement of federal agents in these tragic incidents.
Additionally, administration officials labeled Good and Pretti as “domestic terrorists,” sparking further outrage. Organizers have reoriented the upcoming protest to address these distressing public incidents.
The organizers aim to express solidarity with Minnesota and immigrant communities nationwide while denouncing what they perceive as a clandestine police force responsible for the killing of Americans and the violation of their constitutional rights.
