Three security personnel at a nightclub in downtown Winnipeg are facing assault charges following an incident that left a Winnipeg Sea Bears player with serious injuries earlier this month, according to law enforcement officials. Teddy Allen was hospitalized after being attacked at the nightclub during the early hours of August 3, as disclosed by the Canadian Elite Basketball League team. The three individuals, aged 35, 37, and 58, who were employed at the venue, were apprehended and charged with assault causing bodily harm. They have since been released on undertakings.
Although the specific nightclub was not disclosed by the police, it was clarified to be located on Main Street, between Portage and William avenues. Allen, who has undergone medical examinations and received treatment, has returned home and is in the process of recovery, as stated in a team-released written communication on Thursday.
Expressing his sentiments on the assault, Allen emphasized that such incidents should never occur, adding, “The thing about my life is that when I’ve been knocked down, I get back up, which is exactly what I’m going to do now.” Individuals with any relevant information regarding the incident, such as dashcam footage or videos captured on security or cellphones around the time of the assault, are urged to contact the Winnipeg police major crimes unit at 204-986-6219 or provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or online.
CBC News has made attempts to reach out to the Sea Bears for their input on the matter.
