A former Metropolitan Police officer has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy by enticing him to a hotel room with alcohol and the popular TV show Love Island, a court revealed.
The ex-officer, Grant Fulker, hailing from Surrey, who was discharged from the police force in 2024, was found guilty of sexual assault and attempted sexual assault by a jury at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, January 9.
Before his trial, Fulker, aged 32, previously part of Specialist Operations, admitted to three counts of misconduct in public office. These charges were linked to inappropriate messages sent via WhatsApp to two boys during his time as a volunteer police cadet leader for the Metropolitan Police.
As reported by The Telegraph, on the night of the incident in February 2024, Fulker bought four bottles of wine and asked a teenager to join him in his hotel room to watch Love Island. The court heard that in an inebriated state, Fulker touched the young boy inappropriately and attempted to touch his genitals over his clothes.
Following the victim’s report to his parents, Fulker was promptly arrested and charged within the same month.
Commander Pete Stevens condemned Fulker’s actions, describing them as “despicable,” emphasizing the abuse of trust as a cadet leader to exploit the boys in a reprehensible manner.
Stevens commended the boys for their courage in coming forward, facilitating a swift investigation that led to Fulker’s arrest, charge, and subsequent dismissal from the Metropolitan Police within a month.
In response to the allegations, the Metropolitan Police reviewed all volunteer police cadet units across London, ensuring compliance with appropriate policies and safeguarding measures.
Former PC Fulker was dismissed in a rapid misconduct hearing in March 2024 after indicating his intention to plead guilty to misconduct in public office.
He was found to have violated professional conduct standards concerning disreputable behavior, authority, respect, and courtesy at a level of gross misconduct, resulting in his immediate dismissal and placement on the College of Policing’s barred list, prohibiting him from any employment within policing entities.
Sentencing is scheduled for Thursday, February 27.
