“Elections Alberta Seeks Experienced Staff for October Referendum”

National"Elections Alberta Seeks Experienced Staff for October Referendum"

Elections Alberta is seeking senior and experienced electoral staff from various regions to assist with the upcoming October referendum. This collaborative effort among electoral management bodies (EMBs) aims to enhance resources during critical election events. Specialized support will be crucial post-voting to ensure an accurate 48-hour continuous count.

Scheduled for October 19, the 2026 referendum will pose 10 questions to Albertans, covering topics ranging from immigration to constitutional issues. Elections BC and Elections Saskatchewan have received requests for assistance from Elections Alberta, with Elections Canada also evaluating a support inquiry.

Elections Alberta’s recruitment campaign has garnered over 30,000 applications, showing progress towards the goal of hiring 60,000 electoral workers. However, limitations exist in relying on EMB workers from outside Alberta due to logistical challenges and eligibility requirements for election officers. Additionally, the recent byelection in Calgary-Shaw could potentially divert attention from referendum preparations.
