The mission seemed routine initially, with Commander Francis Scobee confirming instructions from mission control. However, just seconds later, Pilot Michael Smith’s simple words, “uh oh,” hinted at impending disaster. Within moments, tragedy struck as the shuttle disintegrated in mid-air, claiming the lives of all seven astronauts on board.
