The Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2026 inductees, featuring former NBA player Jamaal Magloire, ex-Carleton Ravens men’s head coach Dave Smart, and Olympic flag-bearer Miranda Ayim, were scheduled for induction on Thursday evening.
Magloire, who enjoyed a 12-season NBA career, notably became the first Canadian player to represent the Toronto Raptors when he joined the team in 2011. His standout performance led to an all-star selection in 2004 with the New Orleans Hornets. Following his playing days, Magloire transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach for the Raptors during their championship-winning 2018-19 season. Currently, he holds the position of vice-president for the Scarborough Shooting Stars in the Canadian Elite Basketball League.
Smart’s leadership at Carleton University established a dominant legacy as the Ravens clinched an impressive 13 U Sports championships under his guidance.
Ayim, a prominent figure in Canadian basketball, captained the senior women’s national team and shared the honor of carrying the flag for Canada alongside rugby sevens player Nathan Hirayama at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
The 2026 Hall of Fame class, announced on July 2, also includes Michael Meeks, Anna Stammberger, Dan Meagher, Teresa Kleindienst, Peter (Doc) Ryan, Janice Deakin, and Dr. Andrew Pipe. The ceremony to enshrine the 10-member class will take place in St. Stephen, N.B.
