An Israeli airstrike conducted in the Gaza Strip on Sunday resulted in the deaths of at least two Palestinians in a vehicle and left 13 others injured, according to medical personnel. The strike, which took place in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood in western Gaza City, severely damaged the vehicle, as shown in footage shared on social media. Local medical officials, speaking to Reuters, appealed for assistance in identifying the two deceased individuals whose bodies were severely affected by the explosion.
The Israeli military stated that the strike was aimed at two Hamas militants, offering no additional details. Despite a U.S.-backed ceasefire established last October to reduce extensive conflict in Gaza, Israeli airstrikes have continued, and progress towards a lasting peace remains limited.
Hamas has accused Israel of breaching the ceasefire agreement and obstructing efforts to implement U.S. President Donald Trump’s comprehensive plan to resolve the Gaza conflict, which involves Israel’s withdrawal from the region and the disarming of Hamas. On the other hand, Israel has accused Hamas of violating the agreement.
According to health authorities in Gaza, over 1,300 Palestinians, primarily civilians, have lost their lives since the ceasefire came into effect, whereas the Israeli military reports four Israeli soldiers killed. Hamas typically does not disclose information regarding casualties among its members.
The conflict in Gaza originated from Hamas-led assaults on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 1,200 individuals and the capture of 251 others, based on Israeli records. In retaliation, Israel’s military operations claimed the lives of more than 73,000 Palestinians before the ceasefire, as indicated by Gaza health authorities.
