Brighton & Hove Albion has officially secured the services of Promise David, the Canadian striker, for the upcoming season in the Premier League. The club announced the signing on Tuesday, revealing that David will join them on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The agreement includes an obligation to purchase David permanently for a reported fee of $29.7 million US, subject to specific undisclosed conditions being met.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David is set to make his Premier League debut in the forthcoming season, marking a significant transfer for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old forward arrives at Brighton after an impressive two-season stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 matches and played a key role in securing the club’s first league title in 90 years in 2025. David extended his contract with Union through June 2029 last year.
Having represented Canada at the recent World Cup, David contributed with a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. His international experience also includes four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian senior national team. Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially debuted for Nigeria’s under-23 team in October 2022 but later switched his allegiance to Canada in February 2025 after receiving approval from FIFA following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch.
Brighton expressed enthusiasm about signing David, highlighting his impressive goal-scoring record and physical prowess. Mike Cave, the club’s sporting director, emphasized David’s potential contribution to the team, especially given his international and European competition experience. Brighton, a consistent presence in the Premier League for the past nine seasons, finished in the eighth position in the league standings last season.
David’s move to Brighton represents the latest chapter in his diverse professional career, having previously played in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before making his way to Belgium in July 2024.
