Beauty Bay, an online retailer specializing in cosmetics, is facing potential collapse as it has recently submitted a notice of intention to appoint administrators. This step usually precedes entering administration and initiates a temporary legal halt preventing creditors from taking legal actions for ten days. According to reports by Sky News, Beauty Bay filed the notice earlier this week and has temporarily shut down its website, displaying a message stating, “We’ll Be Back Soon. BEAUTY BAY is offline right now, we’ll be back shortly.”
Established in 1999 by brothers Arron and David Gabbie and headquartered in Manchester, Beauty Bay offers over 200 brands on its platform, including popular names like Ariana Grande, Clinique, MAC, and its own product line. Earlier reports had indicated that the company was exploring various funding options, potentially including a complete sale of the business.
Interpath, an advisory firm, has been working alongside Beauty Bay in conducting a business review. The company, which currently employs 65 staff members, has not yet provided any comments on the situation as per Mirror’s inquiries.
In a related development, Quiz, a fashion retailer, has recently entered administration, resulting in the loss of 109 jobs. The redundancies are affecting its head office in Glasgow and warehouse in Lanarkshire. Quiz’s website has been taken down, and customers with undelivered online orders are being informed that those orders will be canceled.
Quiz is advising customers to seek refunds from their banks or credit card companies, especially suggesting the use of Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act for credit card purchases over £100. For purchases made with debit cards or credit cards under £100, customers may explore the option of Chargeback within the last 120 days. Alternatively, Quiz is allowing customers to exchange unwanted items in-store for products of equal value.
Despite the administration, Quiz stores are operational and offering clearance sales across all branches, although gift cards are no longer being accepted. The company operates 40 stores in the UK and has concessions in New Look and Matalan stores, with the concessions not being part of the administration process.
