“UK MP Warns of ‘Monster Vape’ Kits Equal to 8,000 Cigarettes”

Politics"UK MP Warns of 'Monster Vape' Kits Equal to 8,000 Cigarettes"

“Warning Against ‘Monster Vape’ Kits with Equivalent Puff-Power of 8,000 Cigarettes in the UK”

A senior Member of Parliament (MP) in the UK, Dr. Beccy Cooper, has raised concerns about the legality of “monster vape” kits that are capable of delivering over 100,000 puffs, equivalent to the smoking power of 8,000 cigarettes. Dr. Cooper, a Labour MP and public health expert, is urging the implementation of stricter regulations under the Tobacco & Vapes Bill to address the sale of these high-capacity vape packages in the UK.

The popularity of these kits has surged following the ban on disposable vapes by the government last year. Dr. Cooper, representing Worthing West, emphasized the need to close loopholes in the law that allow the marketing of such devices, which circumvent restrictions on tank sizes and disposable vapes.

She stressed that these “monster vapes” pose serious health risks and undermine efforts to reduce smoking rates in the UK. Dr. Cooper emphasized the importance of tightening regulations to ensure that these ultra-high-puff products are not readily available in the market.

Campaigners have pointed out that some manufacturers are exploiting loopholes by incorporating multiple 2ml tanks in a single device, allowing users to switch between tanks to exceed the legal limit on nicotine e-liquid capacity. Studies have shown a significant market share for these mega-puff devices, accounting for a quarter of vape sales prior to the disposable vape ban.

Advocacy groups like Material Focus have warned about the environmental impact and cost-effectiveness of these large-capacity vapes compared to disposable alternatives. The ban on single-use vapes aimed to reduce waste and prevent environmental harm from discarded devices.

While vaping has been promoted as a smoking cessation tool, health experts caution that the long-term effects are still unknown. The Tobacco and Vapes Bill, currently under review in the House of Lords, includes provisions to restrict cigarette purchases for individuals born after January 1, 2009.

As the legislation progresses, stakeholders continue to advocate for stricter regulations to address the proliferation of high-capacity vape products in the market and their potential impact on public health and the environment.
