A cutting-edge city worth £30 billion is currently under development, set to be three times larger than Paris and will include a dedicated racetrack. Named Qiddiya, this city in Saudi Arabia is emerging in the desert landscape, offering a plethora of opportunities to its future residents.

Qiddiya’s establishment aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, aiming to expand the country’s economy by incorporating tourism and entertainment. Positioned 45km (28.12 miles) from Riyadh and 70km (43.75 miles) from King Khalid International Airport, Qiddiya will span 360 square kilometers, divided into 20 neighborhoods to accommodate around 500,000 inhabitants, equipped with all the modern urban amenities.

Referred to as “The City of the Future,” Qiddiya will boast a Formula 1 circuit, a stadium for the 2034 World Cup, and man-made beaches. Despite construction emissions, the 2024 ESG Report for Qiddiya City emphasizes the city’s commitment to sustainability as a core objective.

Muhannad Aldawood, the Chief Strategy Officer, emphasized the city’s dedication to environmental stewardship, social impact, and economic resilience through the ESG report. While sections of the city are operational, such as hosting the Dakar Rally and the newly launched $1 billion (£744 million) Six Flags theme park, which unveiled on December 31st.

The Six Flags park features Falcon’s Flight, the world’s longest, tallest, and fastest rollercoaster, reaching speeds exceeding 150mph and ascending 195m into the sky. Following the inauguration, Six Flags CEO John Reilly expressed pride in the opening of Six Flags Qiddiya City, heralding it as a landmark project that will revolutionize entertainment in the region.
