Tech"Freeview Channel Changes: UK Viewers Urged to Retune TVs"

UK households relying on Freeview for TV content are advised to check and potentially retune their equipment following recent channel changes. While not a major overhaul, a quick retuning process will ensure that TVs are updated with the latest information.

Freeview has confirmed that on May 20, 2026, certain channels will undergo modifications. Viewers are encouraged to retune their TVs to maintain an updated TV guide and channel lineup.

Among the changes, two channels have been renamed: Hobbycraft TV on channel 97 is now known as Shop Unlimited, and Great! Romance Mix on channel 61 has been replaced by Great! TV +1. Additionally, Great! Movies will shift from channel 61 to channel 62, with Great! TV +1 now occupying channel 61.

Freeview highlighted that channel adjustments are part of the platform’s evolution, as individual providers make decisions to relocate, add, or remove channels. The platform aims to offer audiences a diverse range of content for their viewing pleasure.

If the updates are not automatically reflected on viewers’ TVs, a manual retuning process may be necessary. To retune a TV, users can follow these steps:

– Access the menu on the TV or set-top box remote
– Navigate to the “set-up,” “installation,” or “update” option
– Enter a password if prompted, such as “1234” or “0000”
– Select “first-time installation,” “factory reset,” or similar
– Confirm the deletion of existing channels if required
– Initiate the retune process
– Save any newly found channels during the scan
