A man is facing accusations of causing the deaths of four children and concealing their bodies at his residence while reportedly entertaining visitors for social outings. Wellington Delano Dickens III, aged 38, was apprehended and charged with four counts of first-degree homicide on October 28. Authorities disclosed that the father contacted law enforcement and asserted that he did not subject his children to torture but had “over-punished” them. Upon executing a search warrant, disturbing revelations emerged in the tragic incident, indicating that the father allegedly left the corpses of his deceased children to decompose in his vehicle in North Carolina, as per local police reports.
In addition, law enforcement officials have accused the father of hosting individuals he met through the Grindr dating application subsequent to the alleged incidents involving his children. The father purportedly confessed to purchasing body bags from the online retailer Amazon and placing his deceased children inside them before depositing their remains in the trunk of his car, according to search warrants disclosed on January 14 by WBTV.
During police investigations, Dickens purportedly informed authorities that his vehicle was inoperable and he had been relying on food delivery services. Upon searching his residence, two mobile phones were discovered. One of the devices allegedly did not have the Grindr dating app installed, yet law enforcement purportedly found communications between the father and individuals he encountered on the app, as per police records. It is understood that Dickens met several of these individuals at his residence subsequent to the demise of his children, according to the police warrant.
Reportedly, the father dialed 911 to report the deaths of his four children. Dickens purportedly stated that a one-month-old infant boy passed away due to illness and was buried somewhere on the property, although no body was recovered by authorities. He allegedly disclosed that a five-year-old girl perished two months before he contacted emergency services after disciplining her. The man purportedly indicated that he had restrained the mouth of her nine-year-old sister for protesting about the incident, and she expired when he revisited her later, according to WBTV.
Moreover, the father allegedly mentioned that a 10-year-old boy and his 18-year-old stepson also succumbed, possibly due to malnutrition. It remains unclear whether the children were ever reported as missing. Police discovered an uninjured three-year-old child alive at the residence during the search. On December 18, state prosecutors announced their intent to pursue the death penalty for Dickens if he is found guilty.
According to ABC11, Dickens’ wife, Stephanie Jones, reportedly passed away following a miscarriage. Josalyn Tabron, a neighbor of the man, expressed shock over the distressing situation, stating that they were unsettled by the ongoing visits of law enforcement personnel without receiving a comprehensive explanation of the events.
