ICE agents in Minnesota have adopted a new provocative slogan in the aftermath of Renee Good’s tragic killing in the city last week. Recent videos have surfaced showing officers intimidating peaceful protesters to either stop trailing them or comply with their orders. Many are heard asking, “Have you not learned?” in connection to an ICE agent fatally shooting the mother of three in Minneapolis.
The influx of anti-Migrant enforcement officers into the state under Donald Trump’s administration has escalated tensions. Good was fatally shot by an ICE officer while trying to maneuver her car around him. Despite video evidence proving she posed no threat, Trump officials labeled her a “domestic terrorist” and defended the officer’s actions as self-defense.
Following the contentious shooting, at least five prosecutors, including First Assistant US Attorney Joe Thompson, resigned due to dissatisfaction with the Justice Department’s handling of the case. With the Department of Homeland Security announcing plans to deploy over 2,000 immigration officers to Minnesota, a joint lawsuit by the state, Minneapolis, and St. Paul was filed against President Donald Trump’s administration to curb the surge.
The lawsuit alleges that Homeland Security’s actions violate constitutional rights, particularly in a progressive state known for its Democratic leanings and immigrant-friendly policies. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed concern over the significant impact of the federal agents on the community. Meanwhile, Homeland Security defended its operations in Minnesota, citing over 2,000 arrests made since early December and vowing to maintain its stance.
In response to the lawsuit, Homeland Security accused Minnesota officials of disregarding public safety concerns. Recent events saw ICE agents dispersing tear gas and using eye irritants on activists during confrontations, with students staging protests against immigration raids by walking out of a suburban school.
