Users of various smartphones, including Samsung devices, are encountering screen flickering issues while using the Gmail app. Some individuals have reported instances of disappearing text or seeing blank white boxes instead of email content.
Concerned Gmail users have turned to social media platforms to express their frustrations. One user named Jeremiah took to X to address Gmail directly, stating dissatisfaction with the ongoing flickering problem on his Samsung Fold device.
Similar grievances have surfaced on Google’s support forums, with one user highlighting the persistent screen flickering when attempting to read emails despite applying various troubleshooting methods.
Google’s product expert, Kimiya Kitani, attributed the problem to Android System WebView, a fundamental Android component facilitating the display of web content within apps. Kitani acknowledged that certain devices, particularly Samsung tablets, are facing intermittent issues with Android System WebView, with the matter already escalated to Google for resolution.
While the exact number of affected users remains unknown, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold series and select Galaxy tablets are significantly impacted. As a temporary measure, Kitani recommends rotating the device, as this action can often mitigate the screen flickering problem.
The suggested workaround involves opening emails in portrait mode, switching to landscape mode to resolve the display issue, and then reverting to portrait mode. This method serves as a temporary fix until Google implements a permanent solution to address the screen flickering concerns.
