These remarkable individuals were among the recipients of the 2024 Pride of Britain Awards, selected from a vast pool of public nominations. The awards ceremony, held in London and co-hosted by Ashley Banjo and Carol Vorderman, celebrated these everyday heroes in a glamorous event.

We caught up with three of the honorees who embarked on a 14-night Caribbean escapade aboard the Britannia cruise ship, exploring eight picturesque islands and indulging in top-notch entertainment.
**Aiyla Mota, Child of Courage**
At the age of four, Aiyla Mota fell critically ill with what initially appeared to be a common childhood infection. Her condition rapidly deteriorated into sepsis, leading to multiple organ failure and necessitating the amputation of both her legs and five fingers to save her life.
Now five years old, Aiyla has shown incredible strength and resilience in her recovery journey. Her unwavering courage and positive attitude have captivated those around her, earning her a prestigious Pride of Britain Award and making her one of the youngest recipients ever.
Her mother, Eulanda, 28, from Middlesex, expressed pride in Aiyla’s spirited personality, noting that despite her challenges, she has maintained her lively demeanor, exuding even more confidence and enthusiasm. Reflecting on Aiyla’s zest for life, Eulanda shared, “She’s like Aiyla multiplied by 100!”
Following the award presentation by P&O Cruises, Aiyla and her family embarked on a Caribbean voyage, accompanied by her grandmother Trisha and Eulanda’s partner Louis. They savored the diverse culinary offerings across Britannia’s 27 restaurants and bars, enjoyed the lively entertainment venues, and relaxed by the ship’s four swimming pools.
Eulanda expressed gratitude for the unforgettable cruise experience, remarking, “The cruise was an incredible holiday, and I’m so grateful to P&O Cruises for such an amazing opportunity. It was the first time we had ever been on a cruise, and we really didn’t know quite what to expect.”
She added, “One thing that surprised us was that sometimes you forgot you were on a ship because there was just so much to do.”
Aiyla particularly relished the kids’ club activities, entertainment offerings, and island excursions, while Eulanda found a deep connection to her family roots during a visit to Barbados, her ancestral homeland.
**Emily Greenwood, Outstanding Bravery**
During a leisurely walk along a Cornish beach with her disabled son, Isaac, Emily Greenwood, 53, found herself thrust into a dramatic rescue mission. A 10-year-old boy surfing on a bodyboard was caught in a treacherous riptide, prompting his mother and her partner to be swept into the perilous current.
Without hesitation, Emily secured Isaac’s safety on the beach before plunging into the frigid waters to rescue the imperiled trio. Battling freezing temperatures and formidable waves, she swam 400 meters to reach them, offering guidance and reassurance amid the harrowing ordeal.
Her heroic actions earned her a Pride of Britain Award and a rewarding Caribbean cruise prize, where she traveled with Isaac, her daughter Isobel, and Isobel’s friend Tamar. Emily, a full-time caregiver for Isaac and a small craft business owner, cherished the opportunity to unwind on the cruise.
Describing the cruise as a dream holiday, Emily commended the attentive crew for accommodating Isaac’s dietary requirements linked to his disability. The pre-ordered meals tailored to his needs allowed her a rare respite from her usual cooking responsibilities.
The family relished their time exploring the Caribbean’s stunning beaches, with special accommodations made for Isaac to enjoy the warm waters in his specialized beach wheelchair, providing a therapeutic experience for him.
“As a family, we’re all beach people, so being able to relax together in such beautiful surroundings was unforgettable,” Emily shared.

Manny Singh Kang, 52, demonstrated exceptional fundraising prowess in supporting Dementia UK over the past seven years through innovative initiatives. His philanthropic journey began with offering homemade samosas outside the Wolverhampton Wanderers’ stadium on matchdays, subsequently expanding to include marathon walks, runs, and cycle rides that amassed over £260,000 for the charity.
Motivated by his Sikh faith’s emphasis on community service,
