“EE Unveils Enhanced Scam Guard to Combat Rising UK Scams”

Tech"EE Unveils Enhanced Scam Guard to Combat Rising UK Scams"

The prevalence of scams continues to increase, leading to significant financial losses daily in the UK as cybercriminals employ varied tactics to deceive individuals into disclosing sensitive information. EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service to counter these threats by blocking more malicious attacks targeted at mobile phones.

Accessible to all EE pay-monthly mobile subscribers for a monthly fee of £2, this upgrade may be beneficial for those worried about falling victim to scams.

While it may seem like an additional expense amidst already high bills, EE assures customers that it provides significantly enhanced protection.

Since its initial launch in 2024, EE’s Scam Guard has successfully thwarted 169 million scam and spam attempts, with the upgraded version expected to double this prevention rate over the next year.

The new Scam Guard features AI Triple-Lock Protection, a combination of three digital security components powered by Norton’s Genie AI technology to ensure customer safety.

These components include Safe Email, which offers continuous proactive scam defense for email accounts, and Safe SMS, utilizing advanced AI to detect complex scams in text messages, providing real-time protection for users. Additionally, Safe Web shields customers from online scams while shopping or browsing by blocking malicious websites proactively.

The upgraded Scam Guard also introduces Scam Assistant, enabling users to upload screenshots of suspicious texts, emails, websites, and social media messages to receive instant safety advice. Moreover, the service includes Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring to track potentially suspicious activities across a customer’s online presence, promptly notifying them for immediate action.

Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile, EE, emphasized the importance of combating the rising fraud rates, stating that scams are becoming more convincing and challenging to detect due to AI advancements. EE continues to innovate and enhance its cybersecurity measures, aiming to provide customers with top-tier protection through initiatives like the upgraded Scam Guard service.
