Tensions have escalated between the US and Iran as President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, stating that he should be “very worried.” This statement comes amidst preparations for talks between Iran and the US regarding Iran’s nuclear program in Istanbul.
The warning from Trump follows the recent incident where a Shahed-139 attack drone was shot down as it approached the USS Abraham Lincoln strike force in the Arabian Sea. Sources have revealed that Trump has requested military attack plans that include both limited strikes and more extensive missile attacks.
In response to the escalating situation, the US deployed a carrier strike group to the region, which includes a significant carrier, F-35C and Super Hornet warplanes, and six destroyers. The US has shifted its demands from reducing risks to protesters to insisting that Iran completely abandon its nuclear and weapons program.
Although the US and Iran had initially agreed to meet in Istanbul, Iran expressed a preference for bilateral talks in Oman focused solely on the nuclear program. US Senator Rubio emphasized the need for broader discussions, including Iran’s missile program, to achieve meaningful progress.
