The affluent youngsters in Iran, who are the offspring of the country’s most powerful individuals, proudly exhibit their luxurious lifestyles and vast riches on Instagram. They frequently post pictures with renowned footballers such as Sergio Ramos and Kylian Mbappe.
This flaunting has previously sparked criticism, but it has come under scrutiny again following protests in Iran on December 28 due to escalating living expenses. The discontented citizens redirected their frustrations towards Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, demanding an end to his leadership.
Nevertheless, the Iranian authorities labeled the protests as “riots,” and there are concerns that a significant number of individuals have been ruthlessly killed.
The oppressive regime also enforced an internet blackout on January 8, causing anxiety among Iranians residing in Britain about the safety of their relatives back in Iran.
While the Iranian populace grappled with the impact of a sharp devaluation of their currency, some privileged offspring of the country’s elite have consistently demonstrated their indifference to financial constraints.
These individuals are known as the aghazadeh – the children of influential ruling figures in Iran who enjoy substantial privileges due to their parentage.
While protesters faced brutal treatment including being burnt alive, beaten, and shot, the aghazadeh continued to luxuriate in their privileged lives, whether within the country or abroad. Below are some examples of their extravagant lifestyles.
One such individual is Sasha Sobhani, the son of a retired high-ranking diplomat who previously served as the Iranian ambassador to Venezuela.
Sobhani has faced criticism for his public displays of private jets, yachts, and luxury cars, often accompanied by scantily clad women, despite the political climate in his home country. In 2021, he was summoned to court in Madrid following Iran’s extradition request on charges of money laundering and operating illicit gambling websites.
He refuted the accusations, expressing concerns about potential mistreatment if sent back to Iran. Subsequently, he has been leading a lavish lifestyle in Spain, frequently sharing images with his favorite Real Madrid players, including Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.
In 2024, he posted a video alongside former Real Madrid defender Ramos, expressing gratitude for their meeting with the caption: “Thank you for your hospitality captain was a pleasure to meet you, LEGEND.”
Amid the ongoing protests, a post linked to Sobhani cryptically stated: “The Iranian people will no longer be deceived by your divisions, cyber people.”
In response, one individual commented: “You amassed a significant amount of Iran’s wealth effortlessly.”
