A massive great white shark, known for infrequent attacks but devastating impact due to its size and speed, fatally mauled Australian surfer Brad Smith in a horrifying incident witnessed by his friends. The attack occurred near Gracetown, approximately 150 miles south of Perth, where a colossal shark, described as wide as a car, violently collided with Smith, tearing his surfboard in half. Despite valiantly struggling against the shark and a second one that joined the assault, Smith tragically succumbed to the relentless predators, disappearing underwater within minutes. His lifeless body resurfaced in a pool of blood as friends attempted a rescue, but it was too late.
An anaesthetist present at the scene declared Smith’s injuries as fatal, noting a quick and painless death. Although authorities recovered Smith’s shredded surfboard, efforts to locate the attacking shark proved unsuccessful. Officials speculated the creature to be a great white based on eyewitness reports and the ferocity of the attack. Remembered as a beloved figure in the local surfing community, Smith’s friends emphasized his zest for life and requested against culling the shark responsible, expressing no blame towards the animal.
