A 19-year-old backpacker’s body was found on a tropical beach, surrounded by 12 dingoes, sparking a mystery for Australian authorities to unravel. The teenager, whose identity remains undisclosed by the police, was last sighted around 5 am as she ventured out from her lodging for an early morning swim on the picturesque K’gari island in Queensland, Australia.
After receiving reports of an unresponsive woman, Queensland Police rushed to the beach near the Maheno wreck on the island where the young backpacker was discovered by two men encircled by dingoes. District inspector Paul Algie mentioned that the teenager had been residing and working on K’gari for the past six weeks with a friend.
The woman was last spotted at 5 am and an hour later, the two men passing by noticed the pack of dingoes gathered around an object on the shore, prompting them to investigate further. The distressing scene led to a traumatic discovery, leaving the men deeply affected.
Authorities cautioned against premature conclusions regarding the cause of her demise as they strive to piece together the sequence of events. While it was confirmed that the dingoes had interacted with the body, it remains uncertain whether their involvement led to her death. Inspector Algie emphasized the need to respect the wildlife on K’gari, highlighting the island’s unique environment where rainforest meets the sandy shores, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
