A young man discovered his mother had passed away on Christmas Day morning. The previous evening, Louise McKenzie, aged 38, received a diagnosis of an inflamed pancreas after visiting the doctor with her son Reece Barrett, 18. Despite being reassured that it was not serious, they finished up some last-minute Christmas shopping before returning home to Bootle, Merseyside.
Later that evening, Louise began feeling unwell, experiencing dizziness and a headache. Reece recounted that he went out to meet friends but quickly returned home after his mother called him. Finding her asleep upstairs, he bid her goodnight before going to bed himself. The next morning, he found her lifeless on the bathroom floor and called emergency services.
Reece, a full-time civil servant, described his mother as a kind and sociable person who cared for him and their pet dog. Tragically, Louise is believed to have died from a brain haemorrhage. Reece is currently residing with his girlfriend’s family while making arrangements for his own accommodation with their dog, Virgil.
Reflecting on the events leading up to his mother’s death, Reece shared that Louise had mentioned feeling dizzy and having a headache while they tidied the house on Christmas Eve. He regretted not recognizing these as signs of a brain bleed and not taking her to the hospital.
A fundraising campaign has been initiated by Holly’s mother, Vicki Bradshaw, to assist Reece in covering living expenses following his mother’s passing. Reece expressed gratitude for the support during this challenging period, as he navigates the transition to living independently after his mother’s sudden death.
