International"World Nomad Games Showcase Nomadic Sports & Culture in Kyrgyzstan"

The World Nomad Games, a celebration of traditional nomadic sports and culture, are currently taking place in Kyrgyzstan. Athletes representing 104 countries are participating in the event, which highlights the sports of the Turkic peoples of Central Asia. The games, held at Kyrchyn Gorge, located about 314 kilometers east of the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek, will conclude on Sunday.

Participants in the games were seen on Wednesday at the venue, with images capturing athletes holding golden eagles as part of a competition. Another striking sight was a participant interacting with a hunting bird during one of the events.

On Friday, a rider from Kazakhstan showcased his skills in the traditional equestrian discipline known as “tyiyn enmei” or “pick up the coin.” This challenging competition requires riders to gallop at high speed while picking up coins or a pouch from the ground while staying mounted on their horses.

Additionally, horse riders from Uzbekistan and Russia engaged in the traditional Central Asian sports of “kok-boru” or “buzkashi” on Wednesday. This sport involves mounted players competing for points by throwing the carcass of a headless goat into a designated area.

The games also feature archery competitions, with participants aiming arrows during the event. Aside from the sporting events, spectators can enjoy food and witness demonstrations of craftsmanship skills, such as wool spooling and pottery making by Kyrgyz women.

Overall, the World Nomad Games offer a unique blend of sports, culture, and craftsmanship, providing a platform for showcasing the rich heritage of nomadic traditions in Central Asia.
