The Vancouver Rise made an impressive debut as Alex Lamontagne netted two goals to lead her team to a 5-1 victory over the Ottawa Rapid in a Northern Super League match. Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes also found the back of the net for the Rise, with three goals coming in a quick 10-minute span early in the second half. Elise Bell managed to score a consolation goal for the Rapid in the 82nd minute, breaking Jessica Wulf’s clean sheet hopes.
Following this win, the Rise climbed to fourth place in the league standings, surpassing the Halifax Tide by one point. The team now boasts a record of seven wins, one draw, and nine losses, totaling 22 points. Meanwhile, the Ottawa Rapid, despite the loss, maintain their lead at the top of the table with 33 points, three points ahead of the Montreal Roses. The Rapid’s current record stands at 10 wins, four losses, and three draws.
In terms of gameplay statistics, the Rise held a slight edge in possession with 53% compared to the Rapid’s 47%, while also outshooting their opponents 17-8, with 11 shots on target compared to the Rapid’s 3. Vancouver also secured four out of the seven corner kicks awarded during the match, with both teams receiving two yellow cards each.
Looking ahead, the Rise are set to host the Calgary Wild on Saturday, August 29, while the Rapid will be visiting AFC Toronto on Sunday, August 30.
