A powerful tornado wreaked havoc on the village of Pomas in southern France, causing extensive damage to over 300 homes and injuring numerous individuals. Fortunately, no missing persons have been reported in the aftermath of the disaster.
As of Tuesday morning, 1,400 households in the Aude prefecture remained without electricity. The tornado was captured swirling above the village of Verzeille, located a few kilometers east of Pomas, in a video shared on social media and verified by Reuters. Many homes in its path suffered shattered windows as the tornado passed through.
Images show the devastation caused by the tornado in various locations, including Preixan and Pomas. The aftermath depicts a man amidst the debris of a damaged house, fallen trees in a cemetery, and individuals covering a damaged building’s roof with a tarp. Additionally, the Saint Julien et Sainte Basilisse church is shown with a collapsed roof, strewn with debris.
The community is now engaged in the process of cleaning up and assessing the extent of the damage caused by the tornado. Pedestrians are seen navigating around toppled trees and damaged homes in Pomas, highlighting the significant impact of the natural disaster on the local area.
