“Netflix Viewers Without TV Licence Risk £1,000 Fine”

Tech"Netflix Viewers Without TV Licence Risk £1,000 Fine"

Homes that have Netflix may face a fine of up to £1,000 for not complying with a straightforward UK law. The regulations regarding TV streaming are clear-cut. While indulging in a box set marathon or movie-watching session on online platforms like Netflix, there is no requirement for a TV Licence. However, the situation changes once you begin watching live broadcasts, which many people may do this weekend.

Renowned boxer Tyson Fury is set to return to the ring on Saturday, April 11, in a match against Arslanbek Makhmudov, which will be live-streamed on Netflix. Subscribers will be pleased to know that there are no additional charges for viewing the event from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Nevertheless, viewers are advised to proceed with caution. According to TV Licensing, “If you are tuning into a live TV program on Netflix, you must be covered by a TV Licence.” It is important to note that a TV Licence is not required for watching on-demand content on Netflix.

Tyson Fury has emerged from retirement to square off against Russian boxer Arslanbek Makhmudov in a heavyweight showdown in London on April 11. The fight will be available for live streaming on Netflix, accessible for free with Sky’s £15 Essential TV bundle or £24 Ultimate TV bundle, the latter of which includes HBO Max and Disney+.

This caution should not be taken lightly, as individuals caught without a valid TV Licence could potentially face a substantial financial penalty. “You could face prosecution if found watching, recording, or downloading programs illegally. The maximum penalty is a £1,000 fine, in addition to any legal costs and/or compensation that may be imposed.”

Therefore, if you plan on enjoying the highly anticipated fight on Netflix, it is advisable to ensure that your TV Licence is up to date and all fees are paid. Just as a reminder, a standard TV Licence is priced at £180, while a black and white licence costs £60.50.
