“Fired Saskatoon Officer Appeals Dismissal Decision”

National"Fired Saskatoon Officer Appeals Dismissal Decision"

A former Saskatoon police officer, Robbie Taylor, is appealing his termination following a dismissal decision made by Police Chief Cam McBride. Taylor was fired in March 2025 due to his association with a Hells Angels affiliate, which was deemed unsuitable for his role as a police officer. Taylor’s legal representatives, Scott Hopley and Brian Pfefferle, presented arguments at an appeal hearing before a three-member panel of the Saskatchewan Police Commission in Saskatoon.

One of the key issues raised during the appeal pertains to an alleged abuse of process, which was initially brought up during a weeklong hearing in September 2025. This allegation revolves around a complaint received by then-Police Chief Troy Cooper in 2023 concerning Taylor’s involvement in a traffic stop concerning his friend, whose identity is protected by a publication ban.

The complaint was escalated through the chain of command to Deputy Chief McBride, but ultimately, Cooper chose not to take disciplinary action. Taylor’s legal team was unaware of this decision until McBride testified about it during the September hearing, which they argued was unfair and impacted their preparation.

Ashley Smith, representing the Saskatoon Police Service, contended that there was no physical document to disclose regarding the decision not to pursue disciplinary measures against Taylor. Despite acknowledging the relevance of the information, Smith maintained that it was not in a shareable format. She emphasized that Taylor should have been aware that maintaining a friendship with an individual linked to organized crime was unacceptable.

Smith further argued that the severance of trust between McBride and Taylor, as well as the importance of upholding public trust in the police service, warranted Taylor’s dismissal. The panel of the Saskatchewan Police Commission, comprising Aaron Fox, Leanne Lang, and John Ajioritis, has yet to render a decision on the matter.
