“Expert: UK Nuclear Arsenal Control Not Under Trump”

International"Expert: UK Nuclear Arsenal Control Not Under Trump"

A prominent defense analyst has addressed concerns regarding the assertion that Britain’s nuclear arsenal is under the direct authority of Donald Trump, amidst the escalating tension surrounding the Greenland crisis.

In response to the recent imposition of tariffs on the UK and other NATO nations over the deployment of troops in Danish territory, Donald Trump issued a disconcerting statement indicating a shift away from prioritizing peace.

The ongoing diplomatic dispute with the US has revived discussions about the extent of White House influence over the UK’s £23 billion Trident nuclear program, which relies on American technology. Even Keir Starmer emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong partnership with the US in defense and security matters.

Contrary to the perception of complete US control, Professor Anthony Glees from the University of Buckingham emphasized that the UK possesses operational control over its Trident missiles, albeit requiring maintenance services from American companies. He stressed the need to acknowledge the UK’s strength rather than downplaying it during times of strained transatlantic relations.

Professor Glees criticized Trump’s actions undermining the NATO alliance, cautioning that such behavior could weaken American interests in Europe as well. He highlighted the potential for the UK and France to collaborate on developing an independent deterrent as both countries prepare to update their nuclear submarine fleets.

Concerns have arisen over the vulnerability of Britain’s F-35 fighter jets, which incorporate American technology, to potential disruptions from the US. However, Professor Glees reassured that the Royal Air Force has alternative aircraft options available if necessary.

In response to Trump’s correspondence with the Norwegian Prime Minister, Professor Glees criticized the letter as indicative of cognitive decline, emphasizing the independence of the Nobel committee from governmental influence.
