“Cristiano Ronaldo hints at retirement after current season”

Updates"Cristiano Ronaldo hints at retirement after current season"

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that the current Saudi Pro League season may mark the end of his illustrious career in professional football. The 41-year-old football icon’s contract with Al-Nassr in Riyadh, which he inked in December 2022, is set to expire next June, with little likelihood of an extension, according to his interview with Vogue magazine.

Expressing his intentions, Ronaldo stated, “This is probably my final year in football, and my aim is to establish a remarkable legacy.” The Portuguese forward, renowned for his 976 career goals, recently tied the knot with his long-time partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

Detailing his future plans, Ronaldo shared, “I have already mapped out my future. I have diverse interests to pursue as football’s absence would create a significant void that must be filled with various activities, not just one.” He added, “I plan to have more fun, travel extensively, engage in padel, a sport I deeply enjoy, and continue relishing the rewards of my hard work over the past 25 years.”

Ronaldo, now in his 25th professional season, boasts an impressive record of five Ballon d’Or awards and five UEFA Champions League titles. His contribution of 28 league goals in the previous season was instrumental in Al-Nassr clinching the Saudi Arabian championship in May, securing both his first trophy since joining the club and their first league title since 2019.

Following his recent wedding, Ronaldo missed Al-Nassr’s opening game of the season, a successful 3-0 victory over Al-Fateh, as he watched from the sidelines. Coach Ange Postecoglou acknowledged Ronaldo’s presence, stating, “Cristiano is with us today and remains a significant part of our team.”

Looking ahead, Ronaldo may feature in the upcoming King’s Cup match against Al-Diriyah on Tuesday. Postecoglou emphasized the importance of recovery post-match due to the tight schedule, highlighting the need for swift recuperation.

Ronaldo’s contemplation on retirement coincides with his long-standing rival Lionel Messi’s recent statement about potentially stepping away from the sport following his father’s passing. Messi, aged 39, expressed uncertainty about his future in football, remarking, “I used to solely focus on playing football, but now I find myself unsure if I will continue for much longer.”
