Shoppers witnessed a tense situation as armed law enforcement officers entered a Tesco store in response to reports of an individual possibly carrying a weapon. The incident took place at the Tesco Extra in the Corstorphine area of Edinburgh on Friday evening, prompting a significant police presence captured in images from the scene.
Numerous officers, including members of a specialized police armed response unit, were seen at the location alongside multiple police vehicles parked outside the superstore. The authorities were summoned to the store on Meadow Place Road shortly after 4 pm following concerns raised about a woman allegedly possessing a weapon, as reported by the Daily Record.
A 20-year-old woman was apprehended and charged in connection with the incident, according to a police spokesperson. Scotland Police clarified that armed response officers attended the scene as a precautionary measure. The woman has since been released with a promise to appear in court at a later date.
A spokesperson stated, “Around 4.10 pm on Friday, January 9, we received a report regarding a person with a weapon at Meadow Place Road, Edinburgh. Emergency services responded, leading to the arrest and charging of a 20-year-old woman who was subsequently released on an undertaking to attend court in the future.”
