“Frankie Dettori’s Bankruptcy Extended by Court”

Sports"Frankie Dettori's Bankruptcy Extended by Court"

Former jockey Frankie Dettori’s bankruptcy status will remain in effect for another year as a judge decided against automatic discharge. During a specialized hearing, trustees of Dettori’s bankruptcy requested an extension, which was granted by the court.

Bankruptcy orders typically end after a year in England and Wales but can be prolonged by judicial decision, leading to continued obligations and potential legal consequences for non-compliance. Despite not attending the hearing or being represented, Dettori’s bankruptcy order was extended.

Dettori, who recently retired from racing, filed for bankruptcy in March 2025 due to tax-related challenges in the UK, following a dispute with HMRC. The 55-year-old faced financial difficulties after engaging specialized tax advisors for his and his family’s financial matters.

Liquidators previously stated that Dettori was unlikely to settle his substantial tax debt, amounting to £765,542 owed to HMRC and £6,391 to a car leasing company, with additional fees totaling nearly £900,000.

At the recent court appearance in London, trustees highlighted Dettori’s lack of cooperation in disclosing asset information, including potential overseas properties. Judge Nicholas Briggs ruled to extend the bankruptcy order until March 16, 2027, citing Dettori’s failure to comply with information requests.

Furthermore, concerns were raised about undisclosed assets, including a Piaget watch, a wine collection valued at around £70,000, and investments totaling approximately £365,000. Dettori had the opportunity to present his case in court but failed to do so.

Despite his retirement announcement in 2023, Dettori continued racing before his final race in February. With a decorated career, including multiple British Classic wins and ambassadorial duties for Amo Racing, Dettori’s financial woes have garnered legal attention and scrutiny in recent years.
