Disneyland Monorail Evacuated After Power Failure

UpdatesDisneyland Monorail Evacuated After Power Failure

A power failure on the Disneyland Monorail led to a large-scale evacuation, requiring individuals to exit the tracks manually. Approximately 60 passengers had to disembark from the monorail near the Space Mountain attraction. Emergency responders, aided by ladders, safely assisted the passengers down, with no reported injuries.

An Anaheim Fire Department truck positioned beneath the monorail track extended its ladder towards the train, facilitating the passengers’ descent to safety. A spokesperson for Disneyland Resorts disclosed that a power loss affected two trains on Thursday afternoon, prompting the evacuation of all riders by 7 pm. A rider stuck on the ride mentioned that the power failure occurred at around 3:30 pm.

The Disneyland monorail, spanning a 2.5-mile elevated track above the park, operates every 10 minutes, offering a 13-minute round-trip journey through popular park areas. The monorail, described on the Disneyland website as a pioneering transportation system in America, features a blend of classic 1959 aesthetics with modern technologies and design elements.

Originally conceived as an attraction, the Disneyland Monorail transitioned into a functional transportation service by 1961, shuttling guests to and from the Disneyland Hotel. Following various upgrades over the years, the current line of train cars commenced service between 2008 and 2009.

In a separate incident, a malfunction transpired in November 2025 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, involving the Monorail Silver near the Grand Floridian Resort. The electrical issue caused smoke between two train cabins, prompting a swift response from fire crews who extinguished the blaze and evacuated passengers from the suspended track. Guests had to utilize alternative transport modes like buses, boats, and ferries briefly due to the disruption.
