Thomas Frank’s tenure at Spurs was effectively declared over even before the official announcement, evident from the widespread social media chatter advocating for the 78-year-old owner of a prominent Cheltenham Gold Cup contender to replace him.
Some voices suggested the temporary appointment of Harry Redknapp at Tottenham Hotspur following Frank’s departure. Notably, Redknapp has been absent from Premier League management for over a decade and had a challenging run in his last matches, winning only nine out of his final 48 games.
The notion of Redknapp returning to the Premier League, supported by some former players, seemed far-fetched given his lack of recent top-flight success. Frank, however, faced the grim reality of his dismissal, driven by the underperformance of his Tottenham squad domestically.
Frank’s track record at Spurs was marred by disappointing results, with the team averaging a mere 1.12 points per game under his leadership, the lowest among all Spurs managers with over five games managed. The team’s form had been deteriorating, failing to secure a Premier League victory in 2026 and winning just two of their last 17 matches.
Despite the evident disconnect between Frank and the Spurs fanbase, external factors such as a string of injuries to key players, including the early-season ACL injury to James Maddison, contributed to Frank’s struggles to maintain his position throughout the season.
The team’s performance in the Premier League showcased significant shortcomings, with a series of draws and defeats highlighting their inconsistent form. Several losses came from conceding late goals, exacerbating the team’s challenges under Frank’s management.
Despite the setbacks, Frank did achieve a notable fourth-place finish in the Champions League group stage, securing a spot in the last 16. However, the overall lackluster performance in the Premier League ultimately led to his dismissal.
