“Former Tory MP Jenrick Praises Farage After Joining Reform”

Politics"Former Tory MP Jenrick Praises Farage After Joining Reform"

Nigel Farage’s latest addition, Robert Jenrick, expressed admiration for his new leader after leaving the Conservative party, despite their complex relationship in the past.

Previously dubbed as “Robert Generic,” the ex-Tory MP faced a dramatic expulsion from the Shadow Cabinet and a suspension of his membership. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch accused him of planning to defect to Reform, which he confirmed during a press conference alongside Farage shortly after.

During his speech, Jenrick commended Farage for advocating “the essential change needed for years” and encouraged support for him.

Although Farage and Jenrick have had public disputes with personal attacks, the Mirror examines some of the remarks they’ve exchanged. Several months ago, Jenrick criticized Farage’s potential leadership qualities, questioning his suitability for roles such as managing schools, hospitals, or financial matters.

Last summer, Farage proposed abolishing the two-child benefit limit, leading to Jenrick mocking him for the decision. In a leaked conversation with the Telegraph, Jenrick belittled Farage’s leadership skills, suggesting he couldn’t manage a small team, let alone a country.

In a Facebook post in September 2024, Farage commented on the Conservative Party conference, highlighting Jenrick’s transformation from a non-assertive figure to portraying himself as a strong hardliner, which he viewed as politically motivated rather than genuine.

The following year, Farage doubted Jenrick’s sincerity, questioning his convictions. In response to escalating tensions in Epping over an asylum hotel, Farage criticized Jenrick for increasing the number of migrants in free hotels while he was the Immigration Minister.

Jenrick retorted, calling Farage “rattled” in response to the criticism.
