“Former Conservative Minister Accuses Party of Arsonists, Joins Reform”

Politics"Former Conservative Minister Accuses Party of Arsonists, Joins Reform"

The Conservative Party is facing internal strife as former member Robert Jenrick accused the party of being controlled by “arsonists” after defecting to Reform. Tensions escalated when Kemi Badenoch, prior to his departure, removed him from the Shadow Cabinet upon learning of his intentions.

In a scathing critique on the BBC, Jenrick expressed his disillusionment with his former party, citing a lack of change and accountability among its leadership. His decision to join Reform was portrayed as a move driven by principles rather than personal ambition, a sentiment rebuffed by Badenoch who labeled him a dishonest individual and dismissed any potential alliance between Tories and Reform.

Critics within the Conservative ranks, including former Cabinet Minister Robert Buckland, condemned Jenrick’s actions, likening his transformation to that of a controversial political figure. Michael Gove cautioned Jenrick about the repercussions of disloyalty, emphasizing public perception of such actions.

Labour chairwoman Anna Turley joined the chorus of criticism, denouncing Jenrick as a “fraud” who contributed to chaos during the Tories’ tenure in power. The Labour Party also dismissed Nigel Farage’s claims of an imminent defection to Reform, with Chancellor Rachel Reeves advising caution regarding Farage’s statements.
