“Morrisons Slashes Baileys Price to £11 for Festive Season”

Business"Morrisons Slashes Baileys Price to £11 for Festive Season"

Morrisons has announced a price cut for 1L Baileys, reducing it to £11 just in time for the upcoming festive season. This promotion offers a £3 discount from the usual price of £14 and is valid until Sunday, November 2 in England and Wales, without requiring a loyalty card.

Comparatively, Asda currently sells the same size Baileys for £13.98, Sainsbury’s for £22 (£14 with a Nectar card), and Tesco for £22.50 (£14 with a Clubcard). Last year, Morrisons had dropped the price to £8.50, but customers had to spend £45 and be a Morrisons More member to avail of the deal.

In a strategic move, Morrisons plans to convert numerous corner shops into Morrisons Daily convenience stores. The grocer aims to establish 250 new Morrisons Daily stores next year by enabling corner shop proprietors to transform their outlets into Morrisons franchises. This expansion targets regions where Morrisons has limited presence, predominantly in southern cities and the Midlands.

This initiative signifies a substantial acceleration of Morrisons’ growth strategy, with approximately 160 convenience stores slated for opening this year. A Morrisons spokesperson highlighted the franchise model as a capital-light approach to swiftly expand the Morrisons Daily brand across the UK.

Concurrently, Morrisons is streamlining its operations by closing 103 stores, cafes, florists, and pharmacies this year. The supermarket has already shuttered 17 Morrisons Daily convenience stores as part of a broader restructuring plan. Additionally, over 50 cafes, 13 florists, four pharmacies, 18 Market Kitchens, 35 meat counters, and 35 fish counters are scheduled for permanent closure due to a comprehensive review identifying these services as financially unsustainable.

Rami Baitiéh, Chief Executive of Morrisons, emphasized the need for relevant specialist offerings in stores where counters or cafes are closing, acknowledging the impact of these changes on employees.
