“Beware: Amazon Customers Targeted in New Product Recall Scam”

Tech"Beware: Amazon Customers Targeted in New Product Recall Scam"

Amazon customers who made purchases in March are being alerted to a deceptive new scam falsely claiming a “product recall” has been issued. The misleading text message, received on UK phones, starts with a notification stating “Amazon Product Recall Notice.” It then promises a full refund to users and urges them to click a link and log in to their Amazon account. Additionally, recipients are told to immediately stop using the product to create a sense of urgency.

The message, shared with Mirror Online, informs recipients that a product from their March 2026 order is subject to a recall due to a design flaw posing a safety risk. Despite sounding alarming, this is a phishing scam aimed at tricking concerned customers into divulging their login credentials, leading to potential unauthorized purchases, account lockouts, or personal information theft.

While this scam is recent, it is not the first time Amazon customers have been targeted. In a similar incident in February, cybercriminals spread messages alleging a product recall “for safety reasons,” linking to a fraudulent Amazon page, as warned by consumer group Which?. Amazon emphasized vigilance against scams involving payments through email, phone, or text, advising consumers to be cautious of urgent requests and to report suspected scams to safeguard accounts and aid law enforcement.

Amazon also cautions customers to be wary of unfamiliar phone numbers, unexpected order or delivery messages, and links with spelling errors, unusual formatting, or URLs using IP addresses instead of standard web addresses.
