“Canada’s Humana-Paredes/Wilkerson Win Bronze in Montreal”

Sports"Canada's Humana-Paredes/Wilkerson Win Bronze in Montreal"

Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched the bronze medal at the Montreal Elite16 tournament, delighting the home crowd. The duo, who won silver at the 2024 Olympics, staged a remarkable comeback against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann, winning 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16 to secure their spot on the podium.

Wilkerson’s stellar performance included 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a crucial serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points. The match had to be temporarily halted due to inclement weather before eventually resuming.

Earlier in the day, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson suffered a defeat in the semifinals against Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta, dashing their hopes of a three-peat. However, they redeemed themselves in the bronze-medal match against the German pair.

The Canadian duo had previously won the Montreal titles in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver medal in between at the Paris Games.

Canadian Men Secure Bronze

In the men’s bronze-medal match, Canada’s Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett staged a remarkable comeback to secure victory. The Ontario pair outplayed Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen after dropping the first set 16-21, eventually winning 28-26 and 15-12 to claim their first podium finish together on home turf.

Schachter and Pickett had earlier caused a stir by defeating the top-ranked duo, Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson, to reach the men’s semifinals. Despite a valiant effort, they fell short in the semifinal against Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein.
