“WestJet Cabin Crew Union Secures 18% Raise After Strike”

Business"WestJet Cabin Crew Union Secures 18% Raise After Strike"

The union representing WestJet’s cabin crew has disclosed specifics of the recently agreed-upon deal with the Calgary-based airline following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has announced that the deal encompasses an over 18% salary increase spread over three years, alongside a novel “duty period premium” providing extra pay for ground duties. Additionally, enhancements in time off, as well as increased food and uniform allowances, are part of the agreement.

WestJet flights throughout much of Canada were halted over a prolonged holiday weekend as 4,400 flight attendants were poised to strike, resulting in flight disruptions. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union early on Monday, leading to a gradual return to regular operations for WestJet.

The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the deal in the upcoming weeks.
