I Am Maximus emerged victorious in the 2026 Grand National, completing the race in 9 minutes and 9.68 seconds. This achievement secures the second consecutive win for the horse owned by JP McManus, placing alongside Tiger Roll as a two-time champion at this esteemed racing event.
The triumph also solidifies McManus’s position as the most successful owner in the history of the Grand National, boasting four wins to his name. Furthermore, it marks a back-to-back victory for trainer Willie Mullins, who guided Nick Rockett to victory in the previous year’s race.
Reflecting on the win, jockey Paul Townend, who has now clinched both the Gold Cup and Grand National titles this season, praised I Am Maximus’s tenacity and skill. Mullins commended the horse’s exceptional performance, highlighting the strategic decision to focus on Aintree rather than the Gold Cup path.
